Visit Västerås konstmuseum
Welcome to Västerås!
Västerås konstmuseum offers a wide range of exhibitions and events, guided tours and lectures, as well as research facilities, all in historical surroundings. Västerås konstmuseum exhibits Swedish art from its own collection as well as contemporary art, mainly by Swedish artists. The building, which is centrally situated in Västerås, dates from the beginning of the 20th century and was originally ASEA’s first factory based on scientific manufacturing principles.
Västerås Konstförening VKF (Västerås Arts Association) was founded in 1919 and for over five decades the association acquired and collected art, mainly by Swedish artists. In 1972 the collection was donated to Västerås City and Västerås konstmuseum was founded. The museum opened September 23th 1972 with a public program in the former Court House at Fiskartorget. Among the first public exhibitions were shows with artists Endre Nemes and Olle Bærtling. Västerås konstmuseum opened in a new location at Karlsgatan 2 in September 2010.
