Art Friday for Kids

Fridays, 11 Sept – 11 Dec, 10-11 am

Come and create art on a theme together with your child. Let the exhibitions get you talking about art, and work in the Art Lab together with our art teachers. For kids up to the age of 6 accompanied by an adult. SEK 30 per child. We meet at 10 am and start together. Session lasts for approx 1.5 hours. A maximum of 75 in the Art Lab.

The Embroidery Academy

The Embroidery Academy visits us, with inspiration and lessons in stitching techniques. Bring your own materials for added inspiration. Some material is available for sale, if you are a beginner or don’t have any of your own. No bookings, everyone is welcome, no previous experience required.

Västerås konstmuseum in association with Mälardalens Fotogrupp invites you to coffee and photos in Västerås. Photo enthusiasts gather to take part in a presentation, learn something new, discuss and debate current topics and meet other photographers.

Photo workshop with Studio 021

 22 Nov, 1.00 – 2.00 pm

The art of mobile photography: How to take fantastic pictures with your mobile phone.

Workshop with Victoria P. Ben, member of Studio 021 and a mobile photo enthusiast.

12 Dec, 1.00 – 3.00 pm

Portrait photography with studio lighting and a short lesson on travel portraits. Victoria P. Ben, a member of Studio 021, will show us how to use studio lighting to create a photo with just one source of light. Participants will have the opportunity to try studio lighting from Elinchrome, one of the best brands on the market, followed by a short lesson in how to create travel portraits, and how to behave in order to inspire confidence. Please note: Price: SEK 150.

Take part in our intriguing Tuesday Lunch lecture series followed by lunch at Karlsgatan kafé. The lecture is approximately 30 minutes long. SEK 80 including lunch. SEK 40 for lecture only.

Welcome to Karlsgatan 2 and our open creative Saturday workshops for kids and grown-ups! We try different techniques and make art together. Free, and everybody is welcome!

Concert: Edith in good company – Django Reinhardt and Jacques Brel

It’s Edith Piaf’s 100th birthday, and Marie-Chantal Long wants to celebrate this with her musicians, the Swing Club quartet, in a special performance mixing Django-jazz on guitar, double bass, violin, with humorous and sometimes ironic comments on the immortal tunes of Edith and Jacques. Don’t miss this unique interpretation of the French musical heritage! Even if you’ve forgotten your schoolbook French, we promise to guide you safely through the language and music.

Walks/Special tours:

3 October, 10.00 am

Photo walk. We stroll, take pictures and chat as we pass by some of the more historically interesting parts of Västerås. We walk through the former industrial estates of companies such as Asea and Metallverken. Afterwards, those who wish can stay and have coffee at Kafé Karlsgatan. Meeting place: outside Karlsgatan 2.

Do you want to get started, or do yoga at a slower pace? We do yoga in a gentle flow, to improve circulation and suppleness. Each session is based on a philosophical and biomechanical theme, to include body, mind and spirit.

Ulrika Segerberg – Words are Not the Key to My Castle

Lecture followed by voluntary workshop

Ulrika Segerberg’s paintings, textile objects, collages and performances often feature humour, in the borderland between private and political. Ulrika Segerberg (b. 1976, Eskilstuna) grew up in Västerås and exhibits regularly in Sweden and internationally.

Anna Törrönen, City of Västerås Fine Arts Scholar 2015

Lecture followed by voluntary collage and painting workshop

Anna Törrönen was born in 1983 and grew up in Västerås. She studied at Västerås konstskola, the Åbo Academy of Art, and the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana. Her works, which are in a variety of media, including painting, collage, video art, and installation, deal with issues of identity and life experiences. In association with Västerås Konstförening

Lecture: Elisabeth Ohlson Wallin – Moving and disturbing images

Elisabeth Ohlson Wallin is currently featured in the exhibition Hetero Ethno Norms at Västmanland County Museum. She gives a personal talk about her creative practice, about marginalisation, visibility and writing yourself into history. In association with Västmanland County Museum

Release party for the new edition of the magazine Little Finger. We celebrate the event with 250 artistic oeuvres, music, drinks and a typewriter performance with Lina Nordenström!
